The short version

We do not require an account to read Akbaat News. We do not run advertising trackers, and we do not sell data. The only personal information we hold is what you choose to send us.

What we collect

• Nothing, if you just read. Browsing articles and the directory does not require an account and does not create a profile.
• What you submit. If you add a business listing or send a story, we keep what you type — including the name, phone number or email you give us — so we can review it and contact you about it.
• Standard server logs. Our hosting provider records requests, including IP addresses, for security and abuse prevention. These are retained for a short period and are not used to build a profile of you.

Cookies

The public site sets no advertising or analytics cookies. A session cookie is used only for staff signing in to the newsroom. Your language choice on an article is handled in the page itself and is not stored on our servers.

Third parties

• Images. Photographs are served from our own image host. Some photos from other publications are resized through an image proxy, which sees the image request but not who you are.
• Video. Where an article embeds a YouTube video we use youtube-nocookie.com, so YouTube sets no tracking cookie unless you actually press play.
• Hosting and database. The site runs on Vercel with a Supabase database. Both process data on our behalf.

What we publish

If your business listing is approved, the details you supply — name, category, address, phone number, website — become public. Do not submit a personal phone number you do not want published.

If you send us a story, we may publish it, edit it, or not use it. Tell us if you do not want to be named.

Your choices

You can ask us to correct or remove a listing or a submission you sent. Write to us via the contact page and tell us which listing you mean.

Children

This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top. Material changes will be noted on the site.
